Overview
ZI² Kids ("Young Patriots", "we", "us") is operated by Zenith Intelligence Technologies, P.O. Box 1, Hagerstown, MD 21741, USA. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through zi2kids.com and app.zi2kids.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We are committed to protecting children’s privacy and complying with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and, where applicable, the FTC Act, FERPA, the California Consumer Privacy Act/CPRA, and the EU/UK GDPR.Information we collect
We collect only what we need to provide the Service:
- Account data — email, password (stored hashed), display name, and the student’s age band.
- Parent/guardian data — for users under 13, a parent/guardian email and consent record.
- Billing data — handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers; we keep a customer/subscription reference, plan, and payment status.
- Usage & device data — log data, approximate region, device/browser type, and in-product progress (e.g., lessons completed, scores) to operate and improve the Service.
- Cookies — strictly-necessary cookies for sign-in/session and security (including Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-abuse check). See "Cookies".
Children under 13 (COPPA)
Accounts for children under 13 require verifiable parental consent and a parent/guardian email. We collect from children only the limited information needed to operate the educational features. We do not serve behavioral/targeted advertising to children, sell children’s personal information, or condition a child’s participation on disclosing more than is reasonably necessary.
Parents/guardians may review their child’s information, request corrections or deletion, and revoke consent at any time by emailing [email protected]. Upon revocation we will stop further collection and delete the child’s information unless retention is required by law.
How we use information
- Provide, secure, and operate the Service and your account;
- Process subscriptions and payments;
- Personalize learning, track progress, and issue badges/certificates;
- Communicate with you about your account, support, and important notices;
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- Comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only to:
- Service providers/processors acting on our behalf under contract — e.g., Stripe (payments), hosting/infrastructure, and email delivery;
- Schools/educators for Classroom/District accounts, limited to that organization’s students;
- Authorities when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service;
- A successor in a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to this Policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal information, and to opt out of sale/sharing (we do neither). California residents (CCPA/CPRA) and EU/UK residents (GDPR) have these rights; we will not discriminate against you for exercising them. To exercise rights, email [email protected]. We will verify your request before acting. For children, requests are handled through the parent/guardian.
Cookies & similar technologies
We use strictly-necessary cookies for authentication, session management, and security (including Cloudflare Turnstile). We do not use advertising cookies or sell tracking data. You can control cookies in your browser, but disabling essential cookies may break sign-in.
Data security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit (TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), access controls, and least-privilege practices. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify affected users and authorities of incidents as required by law.
Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal/tax obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Children’s data is deleted upon verified parental request or when no longer needed.
International transfers
We are based in the United States; if you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.
Third-party links
The Service may link to third-party sites (e.g., the app, payment pages). We are not responsible for their privacy practices; review their policies.
Changes
We may update this Policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, additional notice.
